This morning was filled with so much joy! Subhash and I went to a music class for 3-5 year olds. It was amazing. The kids were enthusiastic and eccentric. They all loved to sing and were excited to participate. They showed us a song/dance that they had been working on, which is quite the show. We then taught them the Itsy-Bitsy Spider, which they loved. Their English was pretty impressive and I didn’t really have a hard time communicating with them. The wonders of the little brain. They then did animal noises, which was adorable. I loved it and had a great time. I spent the rest of the morning working in the workshop with the Agastya team that is working to build the Brightbox.
I also got to see their planetarium. While it wasn’t as good the Franklin Institute, it was a pretty nice show and I could see how the kids would really enjoy it. The afternoon continued with a few (from my perspective) very frustrating interviews. But, it was all ok because I had the opportunity to meet Sony. Sony is an Instructor Master Trainer for Agastya and is the key person that I needed to talk to about our curriculum. He was the one with all of the information and able to give us the goahead for the changes to the manuals. From our discussion, he loved the work that we have done. He was completely thrilled by the project and very excited to see it happen. It made me feel so great about the work I’ve been doing.
We went back to the community tonight to work with the kids. They again had fun with the Brightbox, solving the new challenges that we had come up with. Their focus on the challenges was incredible. You could see the wheels turning in their head as they worked together and asked each other questions. I have to say, no matter how hard the project is or working together as a team can be, the joys of seeing these children’s faces light up when you visit and their excitement for Agastya’s programs and our project makes it all worthwhile.
Hope everything is good at home! This marks the halfway point of the trip. Fortunately there has been a lot of progress made so far.
