After stopping by my office for my placement, I biked home and ate a quick dinner while skyping my mom before heading into town for the City Game. We broke up into teams and went on a scavenger hunt throughout the city. My favorite was when we had to climb a tree… so I just koala hugged the tree as the whole team stood around. Of course it was absolutely freezing that night, so throughout the scavenger hunt, we stopped at bars to get drinks and shops to get snacks. We went to a place called Da Girafe that was an incredible shot bar. I asked the Belgian student on our tour what I should get and he suggested a Dragon Ball shot. I was already committed when I found out it was Absinth and Gold Stripe, but we did it anyways and although very strong it was quite good. Wasn’t the worst thing to help keep me warm on the cold hunt. Some of the other fun activities were having three strangers sit together like best friends (see picture). In the evening, Robin (truly the only person I’d met in the building) knocked on my door to hang out! I went to his room (yes this was the third and final time out of the room for the day) and we had a few drinks and chatted. The awe of being from America didn’t wear off the entire night. I learned a lot about Belgian culture and the kot and building culture and he had plenty of questions about America. It was a fun way to start meeting the people in the building and the Belgian students. I felt very welcomed to the building and was invited to dinner tomorrow and a party the next day. But for those, you will have to wait for the next blog post.
