Today was quite the work day. This morning, we had a fantastic brainstorming session on our activities. We made the activities that we currently have more fun and relatable to the children and came up with a few more ideas to test out. I then spent the rest of the morning working with Forrest on editing the curriculum. After lunch and more editing, I led a meeting attended by students from Ahmedabad University, the Chief Operative Officer of Agastya (Thiagu), multiple professors from both Olin and Ahmedabad, and our business students. I somehow ended up leading the meeting and was the focus for most of the questions, but overall I think I managed it well and it was a productive meeting. It felt back to my normal role on this project. Also, working with Siddhartan has been great. I have really enjoyed hearing his feedback and talking with him in general. It’s great to get to know him.
The students from Ahmedabad come from a region that is very welcoming with food and snacks. Well, I guess this is kinda a thing all around here, as there is always people offering (or forcing upon you) snacks or tea. But it was very nice because at the evening they gather for snack time and brought out a suitcase of snacks that they had brought to share. So, each night that they are here, I’m getting to experience a bunch of different Indian snacks from their region. I’m also enjoying talking to them and getting to know people with a totally different background then mine.
We went to a different school for the night school this evening. We watched Nitya, an Agastya employee, teach music and dance to the students. It was so fun. I joined in on the dancing and got to experience a Telugu folk dance. It was so much fun to dance with the students and I really enjoyed learning this part of their culture. You can learn so much about a culture and their customs from the dancing that they do. Here, they use a lot of expressions in their dance and the finger positions are very important. I was so happy leaving that night, the experience was fantastic.
